Matthijs de Bruijne

(b. 1967) studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam.

His multimedia installations are a reflection of research on political realities, and often arise in collaboration with trade unions and other labor organizations. De Bruijne’s research has taken him to Argentina, China, and elsewhere. His most recent major project 1000dreams.org presented a subjective mapping of the massive transformation underway in China, and the hopes and nightmares of its dispossessed. He has also collaborated extensively with the Migrant Worker Museum of Beijing. Most recently, De Bruijne has collaborated with the Cleaners Union of the Netherlands, installing a temporary rubbish museum in Utrecht’s central station as part of the union's campaign. De Bruijne’s works have been shown in such locations as Europe, Argentina, and Canada, and in the exhibition project Ex Argentina, 2006, at Museum Ludwig, Cologne. He lives in Amsterdam.

At Auditorium Moscow Matthijs De Bruijne will make a special project involving the parallel mapping of Moscow as a social space through two parallel groups. One will consist of art students, the other of maintainance workers of art spaces all over the city, many of them migrants from Central Asia. The results of the workshop will be exhibited at the venue.
